If you're wondering how to write a cheque in Canada, there are a few things you should know. Although writing a cheque is generally a fairly easy process, there are a few important elements to pay attention to when writing one. First of all, you should know that a cheque has a fixed layout. You need to ensure that you don't miss any important information, so it's helpful to learn how to fill one out correctly. Knowing how to fill out a cheque is a necessary element of any financial transaction, regardless of whether you're writing it for yourself or for someone else.

The amount on the cheque must match the amount on the payment slip. You should sign your name, not the bank. This way, it will be easy to identify the payment. In Canada, it's important to write your name exactly as it appears on your bank records. Also, make sure to put the amount in numerical order. It's a good idea to include the payee's name and 8-digit student number in the memo area.

The date should be written in the top right-hand corner of the cheque. This symbolizes the date of writing the cheque and the date of redemption. Generally, a cheque can be used up to six months after its date. If you don't have the money to pay for your purchase, you can post-date your cheque to make sure it's received on the date you specified. Post-dated cheques must be endorsed with the word "VOID" if they contain substantial errors.
